The course is a continuation of Music 102 and concentrates on music created
since the end of the 19th. century. The focus is on new theoretical systems
developed during this period and the way they were applied in practice.
Aesthetic trends related to these new theories and practices will also be
discussed.
Recognizing that the students taking this class might have diferrent backgrounds
and interests, a number of sessions dealing with the scientific foundations of
these theories will be presented. The course will also try to highlight
mutual influences between main stream concert music and the music of other
cultures and folklore traditions.
