DAY V

1. Beethoven - Technique. Structure and complexity in Beethoven's last quartets and piano sonatas. Works "on the edge" of the classical system.

• strict counterpoint
• harmony (Op.90) the 13th chord(s) in the Ninth Symphony.
• motivic development - Durchfuhrung
• Form -recitativo-, combining CP with the roccoco. (Remember Bach's position as a conservative compared to Vivaldi).

Heterophony - what is it, how does he uses it. Stroe. The missing eraser... The trills.

2. World view. Traces of indeterminacy. Probability and stochastics. Entropy and the second law of Thermodynamics. Complexity.

3. The arrow of time. Dissipative structures. Bergson. Non-linear associations - Beaudelaire: Sonet de correspondances.
